No, Robert Littal, Jason Collins Doesn’t Owe You Anything

Jason Collins

Jason Collins

In a post titled, “Jason Collins’ Ex-Fiancee Carolyn Moos Writing Tell-All Book,” Robert Littal writes:

Normally, I would say this is petty on the woman’s part, but considering Jason Collins wasted eight years of her life while out sleeping with other men, I think she is entitled to make as much money as humanly possible off this story.

And then:

While Collins has acknowledge that he was engaged, I would like him to come clean on how he perpetuated that lie for so many years. If you are going to come out, come all the way out, good and bad.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

First, “wasted eight years of her life”? Why is a relationship that was serious enough to be an engagement “wasted”? Is any relationship that doesn’t end in both people dying a “wasted” time? That’s a ridiculous and incredibly cynical way to look at people’s shared life experiences. Also, did she ever say it was wasted?

Second, “sleeping with other men.” You don’t know this.

Third, “If you are going to come out, come all the way out, good and bad.” Just because someone admits publicly that they are attracted to people you didn’t assume they were attracted to does not mean that person owes you a damn thing. Not. a. thing. Jason Collins can tell us as much or as little as he wants to.

  1. Jesus, the notion of the public’s “need to know” has really gotten out of hand. Why does this guy think Collins owes him – and the public – this information? Disgusting.
